Whole Wheat Couscous

Whole Wheat Couscous

Product Information

Whole wheat couscous is made with whole grain durum flour and is often rolled with brown rice flour. This flour retains the bran and germ of the wheat berry, thereby, making it more nutritious due to its additional fibre from the whole grain. The whole wheat variety of couscous cooks just as quickly as the regular varieties and with its rich nutty flavour, tastes great. Serve couscous with marinated meat or grilled veggies, cooked and chilled it makes a super salad ingredient or use a bed of it instead of rice with curries or stir fry’s.

Cooking Tips

250 ml (1 cup) raw couscous makes about 750 ml (3 cups) cooked couscous. One starch serving is usually 125 ml (1/2 cup) cooked couscous.

Cooking Instructions

Add one part boiling water to one part raw couscous in a bowl. Cover, and leave until the water is absorbed and the couscous is tender, about 5 – 10 minutes. Before serving, fluff with a fork.

Recipe Idea

Prepare the whole wheat couscous using stock or any spicy broth instead of boiling water. Toss with freshly chopped herbs (parsley, origanum, basil, etc.). Serve as the starch for any meal.
