Product Information

Quinoa is a recently rediscovered ancient "grain" once considered "the gold of the Incas”. It is a gluten-free carbohydrate; easy to digest and contains a balanced set of essential amino acids for humans (protein content 12%–18%), making it a good choice for vegetarians and vegans. Quinoa is a complex carbohydrate that digests slowly and will not cause blood sugar levels and insulin levels to spike. The grain is higher in fibre, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin E, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, iron, copper, manganese and zinc than most other grains. Quinoa is simple to cook, very much like rice, has a fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy texture and a somewhat nutty flavour. It is great in salads and stir-fry’s, added to soups and baked goods and delicious as a warm breakfast porridge.

Cooking Tips

250 ml (1 cup) raw quinoa makes 750 ml (3 cups) cooked quinoa. One serving is usually 125 ml (1/2 cup) cooked quinoa.

Cooking Instructions

Rinse well before cooking. Mix ½ cup quinoa with 1 cup water, simmer for 30 minutes or till tender.

Recipe Idea

Use quinoa as a starch instead of rice or pasta in cooked meals. It can also be used in soups, starch salads and pilafs.
